The Simulator
One of the ways in which R/C flying has been aided tremendously
by technology is the development of very accurate simulation software.
You can now learn the basics of flying in the virtual world and
then translate that skill to real aircraft.
This is enormously beneficial to beginner pilots
in taking them past the unwieldy early stages where basic reflexes
and 'feel' are developed so that the very first experiences at
the controls of a real plane are met with some confidence rather
than trepidation.
For more advanced pilots the simulator offers
a way to practice advanced flying techniques without the risk
of crashing.
In addition to the above the simulator offers
an environment so realistic that most find it a very fun experience
in itself and it is a brilliant way to get in some valuable 'stick
time' when the weather is bad or when flying the real thing just
isn't practical.
In our experience the most realistic and complete
simulator is called RealFlight G3.5 and consists of software for
the PC plus a custom control surface by Futaba that gives the
feel of a typical radio transmitter.
